At Adlestrop Consulting, we understand the challenges legal professionals face when balancing career progression with personal commitments.

The legal sector is often associated with long hours, intense pressure, and little room for flexibility, making it difficult for many to envision a path that allows for both professional success and personal well-being.

However, Rhian Davies' journey with Redkite Law challenges this perception, demonstrating that it is possible to work with high-calibre clients, progress your career, and enjoy a fulfilling personal life without the traditional pressures of the legal profession.

We spoke with Rhian about her career journey, her decision to join Redkite Law, and how she has been able to build a thriving commercial litigation practice while maintaining a strong work-life balance. As she continues to expand her team in England, we are supporting her in finding like-minded professionals who want to grow their careers in an environment that values both professional achievement and personal fulfilment.

Discovering My Passion for Litigation

I began my legal career training in Residential Conveyancing, but I quickly realised that litigation was where my true passion lay. The dynamic and challenging nature of dispute resolution drew me in, and I wanted to explore this area further.

I took an in-house role at a construction company that had a strong need for litigation expertise. This role provided invaluable experience in handling disputes from a corporate perspective. It also provided me with a true insight regarding the impact disputes can have internally on any business. However, I decided to return to private practice.

Thriving Under Pressure

I have always enjoyed the fast-paced nature of litigation. The variety and complexity of cases keep me engaged. While my previous roles offered strong career progression and stimulating work, my personal circumstances evolved, leading me to reconsider the best path forward. As I started a family, I sought a firm that would support both my professional ambitions and my personal commitments.

Finding the Right Fit at Redkite Law

Maintaining a strong professional network has always been important to me. I stayed in close contact with my network at Redkite Law and kept myself informed about developments in the legal sector. Aware of Redkite’s growth journey and commitment to flexibility, I was drawn to the firm as a potential next step in my career.

From my initial conversation with the team, it became evident that the firm aligned with my values and aspirations. The culture, people, and opportunities at Redkite Law made it clear that this was the right place for me to flourish both professionally and personally.

Balancing Career Growth and Family

Family is a key priority, and at Redkite Law, I have found it easier to balance career progression with my home life. Raising a young family while supporting my partner’s career could have been a challenge elsewhere, but Redkites’s flexible working approach has made it possible. The firm has been supportive, particularly during times when medical or health-related issues have arisen. Their family-first approach has made all the difference, ensuring that I never had to choose between mine or my family’s wellbeing and my work.

Since joining the firm, I have established and grown my own department, attracting top legal talent and securing high-calibre clients. The firm has provided me with the autonomy to explore new ideas, contribute to its growth, and shape its future.

A Work-Life Balance That Truly Exists

There is often a perception that achieving a genuine work-life balance in the legal sector is impossible, particularly when working with high-profile clients. However, my experience proves otherwise. The firm’s culture allows legal professionals like me to pursue ambitious careers while also enjoying our personal lives, hobbies, and family time.

The firm has demonstrated that a thriving legal career doesn’t have to come at the expense of personal happiness. With the right environment, professionals like me can achieve both career success and a fulfilling personal life, setting a powerful example for others in the legal industry.
